The Client
Teacher Tech AI Limited is an EdTech start-up founded by Sam Clark, a primary school teacher based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Sam identified a clear opportunity: AI could significantly reduce the time teachers spend marking and analysing pupil handwriting at Key Stages 1 and 2.
As a non-technical founder, he needed a partner who could take his idea beyond experimentation and turn it into a real, usable product.
That’s where Magnifica came in.
The Challenge
Sam had already done the hard part most founders struggle with i.e. validation. Using tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, he had built a proof-of-concept that could:
- Extract handwriting using OCR
- Analyse and grade pupil work using the National Curriculum and assessment rubrics as guidance
- Generate structured feedback for both teachers and students
This proved the concept worked, but there was a gap which all too often is the challenge when proof-of-concepts are built using existing tools:
- The solution only existed inside chat interfaces
- It wasn’t repeatable, reliable, or scalable
- It couldn’t be used day-to-day by real teachers
To move forward, Sam needed:
- A proper platform, not prompts in a chat window
- Structured workflows and outputs
- User management (teachers, schools, roles)
- A system that could evolve as the product grew
In short, he needed to turn an idea into a product business. So we got to work.
Our Approach
At Magnifica, we focus on getting the fundamentals right first so instead of jumping straight into development, we reframed the product:
AssessWrite AI isn’t just an “AI marking tool”, it’s a multi-step workflow system powered by AI.
This shift allowed us to design something that was:
- Robust and testable
- Easy to iterate as the product evolves
- Built for real-world usage, not demos
Breaking it down with a MVP mindset
We worked with Sam to:
- Deconstruct his original prompts into task-specific steps
- Map those steps into a structured workflow
- Design a system that takes users from input → processing → output seamlessly
Rather than overbuilding, we focused on a true MVP:
- No unnecessary features
- No over-engineering
- Just the core journey working reliably
At the same time, we ensured the platform gave Sam:
- Control to evolve the product
- Flexibility to refine AI prompts
- A foundation for future growth
The Solution
We built a scalable MVP platform that transforms handwriting images into structured, AI-generated feedback.
Key capabilities:
- Upload and process handwritten work
- OCR extraction using specialist handwriting models
- AI-driven marking and feedback generation
- Structured outputs for teachers and students
- User accounts, roles, and data organisation
Technology stack
- .NET MVC for backend API and server-side functionality
- React for interactive, responsive front-end components
- Tailwind CSS for efficient and modern UI styling
- Microsoft SQL Server for robust relational data storage
- Azure for hosting, storage, and scalable deployment
- OpenAI API for AI-driven feedback generation and marking logic
- Specialist handwriting OCR API for image analysis
The Results
- The platform has seen strong early usage
- Multiple iterations and prompt optimisations have been deployed
- The product has moved beyond concept into a growing, real-world application

Most importantly:
- Sam now has a working product, not just an idea
- Teacher Tech AI is in its growth phase, actively gaining traction
- The platform is built to scale and evolve with the business
Sam continues to push hard with marketing and seeking further investment to drive the start-up forward. We are excited to see where the business goes and look forward to continuing as the tech partner for this exciting EdTech start-up.
