IBM Mainframes: still fighting fit at 50

Today marks the 50th birthday of the unveiling of the first System 360 mainframe from IBM. Launhced on the 7th of April 1964 the mainframe has been the workhorse of business for 50 years. Today mainframes still play a big part in our everyday lives taking care of airline reservations, cash machine withdrawals and credit card payments.

In the rapidly advancing world of tech it feels a bit strange that such an old technology has stood the test of time. This poses an interesting question - Which of today's tech will around in 50 years.

European website launch for Leeds Met University

Magnifica were recently selected by Leeds Metropolitan University to help them and their academic partners develop a European wide project website.

Today we are pleased to announce that the Addressing Sexual Bullying Across Europe (ASBAE) website is live.

Over the past 2 months Magnifica have work closely with the 6 organisations involved in the ASBAE project to deliver a mobile ready and fully responsive website. The website’s primary purpose is to allow the project team to share information with young people and professionals across the whole of Europe.

We also built a secure knowledge sharing area for young people and professionals to discuss experiences and approaches to tackling the issue of Sexual Bullying.

Ashgate Hospice Torchlight 10k

After a busy second week in our new offices I dashed home, devoured a large bowl full of pasta and headed out to Chatsworth.

There I joined friend and local business owner Darren Bristow, Director at Sheffield Digital Agency - Quba and Founder of Eyes Open Creative along with over 1000 other runners to take part in the Ashgate Hospice 10k Torchlight Race.The event was brilliantly organised, a lot of fun and something different I'd not done before. Darren and I have run numerous races together over the past few years but non wearing a head torch, on uneven ground in the pitch dark.

We certainly enjoyed the race as it gave us chance to have a good catch-up whilst raising some money for a good cause…..my only regret is encouraging 2 teenage girls (who had walked the 5k route in fancy dress) to run with me over the finish line.

You’ll be working on a number of exciting projects from ecommerce sites to ERP software. You will also be part of the team building Magnifica’s own application delivery platform.

Magnifica move to Tapton Park Innovation Centre

We're in! After a very busy Friday collecting and building office furniture, hanging conference screens and moving all of our equipment in we are now settled into our new office at Tapton Park Innovation Centre
